There's no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there's nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don't *actually* work.
Enter: GLAMOUR Tries, the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.
Yep, we've been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the YSL lipstick printer to Il Makiage's iconic foundation and even the viral Hair Bedazzler tool from Amazon. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.
Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won't need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We're getting in their first, giving you the lowdown and making sure you invest in products that genuinely work.
And this week, I'm trying out the viral Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer & Plumper. It's a product that's created quite a buzz all over TikTok, with people obsessing over a specific shade called ‘Hot Chocolit’, which is exactly the one that I'm putting to the test.
Right off the bat, the shade is a very rich brown shade with a hint of mauve that looks just as delicious as its name suggests. At first glance, it doesn't seem like it would be my #1 pick for an everyday lip and I was a bit skeptical going in, having my doubts about how it would look on my fair complexion. Still, having seen how great it looks on everyone else on TikTok, I was super excited to try it out. Plus, let's face it, 2022 is all about glossy lips, and I'm not someone who would ever pass up a chance to hop on a lip trend.
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer + PlumperJust as I would normally do before applying any sort of lip gloss, I decided it's best to line my lips first, in order to give them that extra bit of definition and dimension. I've opted for one of my all-time go-to lip liners from MAC Cosmetics in the shade ‘Stripdown’, which is a warm brownish nude.
Once my lips were outlined and ready, it was time for the star of the show. As I proceeded to apply the lip gloss all over, I immediately loved how smooth it felt going on my lips, courtesy of the iconic applicator. And the colour payoff was simply on another level. It resulted in a gorgeous brownish mauve-y tint, giving 90's vibes all throughout. While it wasn't as dark and pigmented as it looks inside the tube, it was still far from being too sheer. In fact, it was a perfect balance, and even one swipe was more than enough. Though I won't lie, I did apply about three layers, but that's just simply because for me, if the people across the street can't see my lip gloss, I don't want it.
As the name suggests, the product is essentially a lip gloss that also acts as a plumper that is designed to achieve that juicy-looking pout, and it did exactly that. The included ginger root oil and capsicum fruit extract worked well in terms of plumping, while the shea butter left my lips nice and nourished. I can already tell it's something that my lips will crave during the colder months. The best part? It didn't feel sticky at all, and unlike other lip plumping products on the market, the tingling sensation was barely there. As someone who has sensitive skin, I was a bit worried if it would cause any irritation or excessive redness, but I'm glad to confirm that it didn't. However, just a quick warning: if you do apply multiple layers, the tingling will feel a bit more intense, but still not overwhelming enough for you to rush to grab your makeup remover wipes.
Overall, the product was an absolute 10/10 for me and I cannot recommend it enough. So if you're looking for a darker, glossy nude shade for the autumn/winter season – run, don't walk. Seriously, because I'm about to buy every single one of them.
